I'm really excited about starting this blog & seeing how God will use it!
In my Bible class, I've been assigned to chose an Old Testament passage, observe it, interpret it, and make it applicable to life today.
We were able to chose to do a group project & make a video, but...
I decided to go on my own and make a blog!
The passage God laid on my heart to do for this project is Isaiah 58:1-12.
Here it is for ya! ...
Isaiah 58:1-12
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Observances of Fasts
1 “Cry loudly, do not hold back;
Raise your voice like a trumpet,
And declare to My people their transgression
And to the house of Jacob their sins.
2 “Yet they seek Me day by day and delight to know My ways,
As a nation that has done righteousness
And has not forsaken the ordinance of their God.
They ask Me for just decisions,
They delight in the nearness of God.
As a nation that has done righteousness
And has not forsaken the ordinance of their God.
They ask Me for just decisions,
They delight in the nearness of God.
3 ‘Why have we fasted and You do not see?
Why have we humbled ourselves and You do not notice?’
Behold, on the day of your fast you find your desire,
Why have we humbled ourselves and You do not notice?’
Behold, on the day of your fast you find your desire,
And drive hard all your workers.
4 “Behold, you fast for contention and strife and to strike with a wicked fist.
You do not fast like you do today to make your voice heard on high.
You do not fast like you do today to make your voice heard on high.
5 “Is it a fast like this which I choose, a day for a man to humble himself?
Is it for bowing one’s head like a reed
And for spreading out sackcloth and ashes as a bed?
Will you call this a fast, even an acceptable day to the Lord?
Is it for bowing one’s head like a reed
And for spreading out sackcloth and ashes as a bed?
Will you call this a fast, even an acceptable day to the Lord?
6 “Is this not the fast which I choose,
To loosen the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the bands of the yoke,
And to let the oppressed go free
And break every yoke?
7 “Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry
And bring the homeless poor into the house;
When you see the naked, to cover him;
And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
To loosen the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the bands of the yoke,
And to let the oppressed go free
And break every yoke?
7 “Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry
And bring the homeless poor into the house;
When you see the naked, to cover him;
And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
8 “Then your light will break out like the dawn,
And your recovery will speedily spring forth;
And your righteousness will go before you;
The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
9 “Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;
You will cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’
If you remove the yoke from your midst,
The pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness,
10 And if you give yourself to the hungry
And satisfy the desire of the afflicted,
Then your light will rise in darkness
And your gloom will become like midday.
11 “And the Lord will continually guide you,
And satisfy your desire in scorched places,
And give strength to your bones;
And you will be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.
12 “Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins;
You will raise up the age-old foundations;
And you will be called the repairer of the breach,
The restorer of the streets in which to dwell.
And your recovery will speedily spring forth;
And your righteousness will go before you;
The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
9 “Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;
11 “And the Lord will continually guide you,
And satisfy your desire in scorched places,
And give strength to your bones;
And you will be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.
12 “Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins;
You will raise up the age-old foundations;
And you will be called the repairer of the breach,
The restorer of the streets in which to dwell.
This passage has so many amazing things that we can take away from it!
Can't wait to see God work through this!
HE IS SO GOOD!!!
Think about this passage ... meditate on it.
Ask God to speak to you through this passage.
We'll dive into some background on it very soon!
For now ...
Pray that God would show himself and what he wants us to hear through his perfect Word!
† Dear Heavenly Father,
I pray that you would have your way in this project and in our lives. God, help me with this project and help me to do it to the very best of my ability. Give me the strength to work hard, and most of all, help me to do this ALL for YOUR GLORY! I love you Abba Daddy! Amen.
Auston Nigg:I really liked the prayer at the end, it really helps connect with God right on the bat.
ReplyDeleteHannah I really like this!!! I think its really cool how you point out how you sometimes don't give all the glory to God. Everyone falls short, and I like how you point out your own fault before you point fingers at everyone else reading this! Riley Reimschisel
ReplyDeleteI love how you put all the money in this. I have never even thought about how much we spend, or where our hearts are when we give the gifts. It really made me think about where my own heart lies.
ReplyDeleteI also love how you used the mirrors thing to get us to understand what you were saying. I have never thought about how the mirror means we care about what we think about ourselves, when we should be caring about what God thinks of us! :)
ReplyDeleteQuite amazing how you crafted that, I am really impressed with this. It really speaks to me and I hope it does to others because sometimes we just get to caught up in ourselves and don't realize where God is in all of our lives and we need to step back and make sure God is the focus as well as others.
ReplyDeleteThe way you used the mirrors to help us better understand what you were saying was great!!! I thought that was a great way to put it and a unique persecutive for people to look at!!! Also I really liked the prayer at the end! Great Job
ReplyDeleteIt was good to help us understand about giving and giving for the right reasons. We tend to receive cause we want something but Jesus didn't want anything when he received gifts. I also like how you used mirrors to show that we think about ourselves quite often more then others. This is really great. Good job!!! Sam Rykard
ReplyDeleteImpressive! Loved how you really stressed that everything we do is not for us but for the Glory of God! I also really loved the song, its amazing how songs can make us feel and what God can show us through them. I also really loved the part about your church. You did a fantastic job! - Anna Henry
ReplyDeleteThis whole blog was super cute! I love the colors you chose, and the way you wrote. I think everything in it has sincere meaning and you really worked on it well. Your introduction was informational and explained well what the project was for/about. You did an amazing job with this!

Also, I really liked how you stressed the part about how to do everything for the glory of God. It's really easy to forget about God and do everything for ourselves. You made a great point there! This was a really great blog, it was well written and connected with the people reading it :)

Good personal example of how you struggle with it. It makes the blog more personal. I also liked the example of the beginning with the presents and the amount of money spent on presents. It got me interested. Nice!
ReplyDeleteI can feel energy coming form the text. It seems like your excited about this blog... good job

I love the look of your blog. It is pleasing to the eye. The colors match well together. I love how the backdrop stays still while the middle columns with the actual blog on it moves when you scroll. I also think the title is clever and it is funny.

(There is one comment above this that says the exact same thing, that is mine. I just reposted this so you could know it was mine and I could put my name on it.)
I really liked the way that you used the mirrors in your blog. It is a great and a easy easy to remember what it means to us.
ReplyDeleteI really like the blog about giving all the glory to God. I feel that is something that we all struggle with. Its a great connection to all of us. And its just a great reminder to give all the glory to God!

I also really liked your object. A mirror is something that we all look at and its just a great reminder that we need to turn the mirror to God, and focus on him. Also your blog was really colorful, and interesting! Good job Hannah!

You did a great job presenting your blog to the class and your object was very appropriate that we should focus on Christ and reflect others before ourselves. Good job.
